Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. provides capital markets services, wealth management, asset management, insurance, investment banking and advisory services, banking and related financial services worldwide. Headquartered in New York City, the company occupies the entire 34 stories of the Four World Financial Center building in Manhattan. Plans were announced on September 14, 2008 for Bank of America to acquire Merrill Lynch. Under its terms Merrill Lynch shareholders would receive 0.8595 shares of Bank of America stock. Shareholders of both companies approved the acquisition on December 5, 2008.
