Christian Dior (b. Granville, France, Jan 21, 1905 – m. Montecatini, Italy, Oct. 24, 1957), was an influential fashion designer. Christian Dior was educated by the diplomatic service at the Ecole des Sciences Politiques in Paris. Then, he began working in the fashion industry. Dior did sketches for Robert Piguet, the great Parisian designer of the time.
In 1946, backed by textile magnate (Marcel Boussac, the “king cotton”), established his main house of couture in Paris. In twenty years has expanded its business to 15 countries and employs more than 2,000 people.
Dior is particularly known for the style “New Look” of 1947 (nickname given by an American journalist): shoulders turned, thin waist with a wide skirt in the form of Corolla to twenty centimeters of soil. Their models are the classic elegance, giving value to a female image. After his death, the house Dior continued with other designers, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre and John Galliano.
