The Comisión Nacional del Agua (National Water Commission) is heir to a great tradition of hydraulic and throughout its history has been comprised of professionals and specialists from various disciplines, internationally recognized for his dedication and technical ability. Currently, the mission of the Comisión Nacional del Agua is to manage and preserve national waters, with the participation of society to achieve sustainable use of resources.

The Commission considers that the involvement of civil society is indispensable for achieving the goals they have set in each basin country, because among other things, the people can the continuity that is required for the actions raised. The central office is located in the city of Mexico and within its main actions are: to support the Basin Organizations and local management in implementing the measures necessary to achieve sustainable use of water in each region of the country, establishing the national water policy and strategy, integrating the institution’s budget and monitor its implementation, concluding with the national and international financial agencies appropriations for the Water Sector, establish programs to assist municipalities in the provision of water services supply and sanitation in urban and rural communities and to promote efficient water use in irrigation and industry.
